October 28, 2024 (Washington, D.C.) – The Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA), the leading association for lower middle market private equity funds and investors, is pleased to present David Coit, Co-founder and Managing Director of North Atlantic Capital, A Stifel Company, with our association’s most prestigious honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his significant contributions to the industry during his distinguished career.

SBIA is honored to recognize David for his unparalleled contributions to the private equity and venture capital industry. Over the course of his remarkable career, David has not only helped fuel innovation and growth for countless businesses but has also set the highest standard for leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence. His dedication to empowering entrepreneurs has left an indelible mark on the industry, inspiring the next generation of investors and business leaders. This award celebrates David’s enduring legacy and exceptional achievements.

David has been investing in private companies for over 42 years. Before co-founding North Atlantic Capital in 1986, he was President of Maine Capital Corporation and a commercial loan officer at the First National Bank of Boston. He is a past Chairman of the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies (now the Small Business Investor Alliance), and a past member of the Board of Directors of the New England Venture Capital Association. David earned a BA from Yale University, and he served as an officer in the United States Navy before earning an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Over the years, David has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (6 years as Chairman and currently Emeritus), Schepens Eye Research Institute (affiliate of Harvard Medical School), Maine Community Foundation, Maine Science Technology Foundation (Chairman), Common Good Ventures, TSC Alliance, Maine School of Science and Mathematics, and The Taft School. He currently serves as a board member of the Herreshoff Marine Museum and America’s Cup Hall of Fame, and he is a founding member of the Yale School of Management Advisory Board on Entrepreneurship.
